Jakarta — Digital technology now touches every aspect of life. Today, it is hard to find any area untouched by digitalization.
However, many internet users still consume information without the skills to understand or manage it properly, leaving them vulnerable to false information.
To address this, Kominfo held the #MakinCakapDigital webinar series with the theme “Creative Preservation of Pancasila Values in Digital Space.” The webinar was held on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, in Tangerang Regency.
Speakers included Didin Sutandi (writer and journalist), Muhammad Bima Januri (Co-Founder of Localin), Olivia Lewi, M.A (lecturer at Atma Jaya University Yogyakarta), and Dr. Delly Maulana, MPA (lecturer at Serang Raya University).
The webinar covered four pillars of digital literacy: digital skills, ethics, culture, and safety.
Didin explained that digital competence means understanding hardware and software, search engines, how to use and evaluate information, and how to access features in messaging apps and social media.
Pancasila values online include harmony, respect for religious differences, tolerance, equality, empathy, collaboration, love of country, unity, deliberation, respect for opinions, hard work, caring, and mutual cooperation.
Muhammad Bima said online behavior should be guided by the same standards as offline behavior. “Use polite language, share knowledge, be a source of peace in healthy discussion, and respect others’ privacy. Good content is not always true, not all true content should be shared, and not all shareable content is useful. Filter before sharing,” he said.
Olivia said digital-era social change has created new platforms, online journalism, and industries. “For netizens to behave civilly online, digital literacy is essential,” she said.
Digital culture is the ability to read, interpret, practice, verify, and build national awareness grounded in Pancasila and Bhinneka Tunggal Ika.
Dr. Delly said digital development now affects business, economy, education, government, entertainment, and transportation.
“Pancasila is the nation’s ideology. It is the foundation of the state, the soul of Indonesia, and a life philosophy that unites the nation,” she said.
Arya Purnama said digital space has both positive and negative impacts. “We need to emphasize Pancasila values. The key is understanding digital literacy in terms of skill, safety, culture, and ethics,” he said.
A participant asked how to teach digital literacy based on Pancasila to novice social media users.
“The most important thing is planting Pancasila values in the family. Parents play a major role, especially during childhood. That is the best time to instill values that carry through adulthood,” Didin replied.
This webinar is part of digital literacy activities in Tangerang Regency. It is open to anyone who wants to understand digital literacy. The next webinar will invite Indonesian youth to join via Instagram @siberkreasi.dkibanten.
The event thanked all supporting parties, especially Kominfo.
